My husband loves pesto. I bought a large jar of it from Sams Club and I couldn't believe how quickly we went through it. He put it on everything... and really, I think we only used it for pasta once.
I tried my hand at some homemade pesto, since I knew it was easy and figured it must be way cheaper than the store-bought stuff. I didn't know it was possible, but he loves this stuff even more! He has requested that it be a staple condiment in our house.
I followed this recipe, but didn't use 4 cloves of garlic--probably more like 2 large cloves. I tasted it halfway through and ended up removing the rest of the garlic because it was overpowering.
I also like the recipe-poster's suggestion for freezing. Though, I'm not sure I will ever need to.
